Questions Regarding Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Members
As you know, last year Empire became part of WellPoint, Inc., the parent company of a number of health insurance companies across the country. These health insurance companies are now affiliates of Empire. As a result, you may be seeing additional patients who will be covered under your participation agreement.
In particular, Empire has been working with its new affiliate, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut to give Anthem members enrolled in certain HMO based plans access to you as of March 1, 2007. Anthem BlueCare, Anthem BlueCare POS, Anthem BlueCare Direct, Anthem BlueCare Basic and Anthem EHP BlueCare members may soon be contacting you, and you will be able to provide care for them as an Empire in-network participating physician.
If you treat Anthem members enrolled in these Anthem BlueCare plans, you will be reimbursed at Empire’s HMO rates.
If you treat Anthem PPO members please note that claims for these members will go through Empire’s BlueCard® program and you will be reimbursed at Empire’s PPO rates.
When you see Anthem BlueCare members please accept their current Anthem member identification cards. All claims should be handled in the same manner as you currently do for Empire members.
